Emerging Markets Forum 2018

On 21st September 2018, SMU Emerging Markets organised the 2nd edition of our inaugural Emerging Markets Forum (EMF) at SMU Labs. Titled ‘Fintech Trends in South-East Asia’, the forum explored developments and identified the key business opportunities and challenges regarding FinTech in the South-East Asian landscape.

We were honoured to be joined by esteemed panellists: Mr. Damien Wong, Vice President & General Manager for Asian Growth and Emerging Markets for Red Hat, Mr. Sreeram Iyer, Chief Operating Officer for ANZ Bank’s Institutional Banking business and Mr. Radhey Shyam, Director and Chief Operating (IT) for AIG APAC Holdings Pte. Ltd. The event was also moderated by Mr. David Chin, Head of Relations at CIOAA.

The forum encompassed an Opening Keynote Address which delved into the macroeconomic developments, business and regulatory climate in South-East Asia. The event was then followed by a Panel Discussion which emphasised on some key industries in South-East Asia and the opportunities unique to the market. The intimate and conducive setting also facilitated exchange between our distinguished guests and the audience through a networking session.

This year’s EMF was once again a successful one, with participation from close to 100 guests from undergraduates from local universities and interested members of the public! The 7th EXCO would like to extend our greatest appreciation to our esteemed guests, participants and the rest of the SEMily members for the guidance and support. With the success of this event in mind, SMU Emerging Markets will continue to be actively involved in providing valuable learning opportunities to propagate the interests of emerging market regions!
