Chairman & Founder

Gary Lee graduated with a Bachelor in Business Management (Finance) in Singapore Management University. Gary founded SMU Pendeza in 2010 which is a trailblazing International Volunteer Project reaching out to Kenya. SMU Pendeza has since reached the grand finals of Project Inspire, a global UN-Women-Mastercard grant initiative, and won the Shirin Fozdar Award. In collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, IE Singapore, and Singapore Business Federation, Gary founded Africa Singapore Business Forum (ASBF) Connex in 2011. Gary was an HSBC Senior Student Ambassador, a Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce Foundation Business Scholar in 2011, and a Sing Lun Scholar in 2013. Gary has been awarded the inaugural AMLow Trailblazer Award for his efforts in spearheading and managing extraordinary initiatives. He also has been awarded the Dean of Students Award 2013, LKCSB Dean's List for AY13/14, and the Arisaig Partners Foundation Award in Portfolio Management. He did a 2012 Summer Internship with HSBC’s offshore banking division and a 2013 Summer Internship with HSBC Global Markets Sales in Hong Kong. He is currently a Delta One Trader with HSBC Global Markets in Hong Kong covering Asian markets.

Melissa Cha Shi Rong, Vice President

Melissa Chan graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Economics) - majoring in Quantitative Economics - and a Bachelor in Business Management (Finance) from Singapore Management University. She was an honoured recipient of the SMU Scholarship and was placed on the Dean’s List for AY2010/11 and AY2011/12. Melissa has previous internship experiences with International Enterprise Singapore, Monetary Authority of Singapore, Singapore Economic Development Board, and Centennial Asia Advisors. During her time in SMU, Melissa spearheaded Project Kashgar - an inaugural Overseas Community Service Project to Xinjiang, served a term as Vice-President (Finance) at AIESEC SMU, and was teaching assistant for Intermediate Macroeconomics. She is currently gaining work experience as a Research Assistant with IMF-STI.

Joshua Wong, Director
Joshua Wong

Director, Africa Desk | Finance

Joshua Wong graduated with a Bachelor of Business Management (Finance) at the Lee Kong Chian School of Business, Singapore Management University. Joshua has had prior work experience at Citibank and Bank of America Merrill Lynch and DNB Bank Corporate Finance, where he took a gap semester to complete a 6-month internship. He was also part of Goldman Sachs Asset Management's 2013 summer analyst program. Whilst in SMU, he participated in Project Xin Yuan IV, a Guangzhou-based Overseas Community Involvement Program. Thereafter, he decided to initiate Project Bethlehem; an inaugural overseas community involvement initiative amidst the landfills of Cebu, Philippines, which benefited over 200 children living in the dumpsites. Joshua has also been on the LKCSB’s Dean’s list for AY 2010/11 and 2011/12. Having recently completed his overseas student exchange in Fudan University, Shanghai, he has commenced employment in June 2014 with Barclays Sales & Trading as a full-time analyst.

Mohammad Rusydi Husain, Deputy Director
Mohammad Rusydi Husain

Deputy Director, Africa Desk | Finance

Rusydi Husain graduated with a Bachelor of Business Management (Finance) at the Lee Kong Chian School of Business in Singapore Management University. Rusydi has accumulated a broad internship experience in different industries, with UBS AG, International Enterprise (IE) Singapore in Ghana as well as McKinsey & Company. On top of that, he co-led a community service project to Hue, Vietnam under Project Thuong II. He has completed a local and international exchange programme in National University of Singapore (NUS) as well as Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. Rusydi has been awarded the LKCSB Dean's List for AY 10/11 & 11/12. Rusydi also organised and chaired SMU's first-ever Harvard College in Asia Program (HCAP) conference with students from Harvard University and other top Asian universities. Furthermore, Rusydi was in the runner's up team in the Singapore Business Case Competition (SBCC) hosted by NTU in March 2014. From July 2014, he will commence his full-time employment with Citibank Singapore as a Management Associate (MA).

Matilda Lim Yunn, Director

Director, Latin America Desk | Events

Matilda graduated with a double degree in Business Management and Accountancy from SMU. She was an honoured recipient of the Lee Kong Chian Scholarship Programme. She was the Strategic Development Director in SMU E.Y.E Investment Club. In the summer of 2011, Matilda organized and led the pioneer team up to Kashgar, China on a community trip that was recognised by the Shanghai Tourism Board. She has also completed internships with Deloitte Corporate Finance, and Bank of Singapore. Matilda completed a summer internship stint with Trafigura in the Structured Trade Finance Department in the summer of 2012, and another with Shell in 2013. She has since commenced full-time employment with Shell in August 2014.

Daniel Wong Kwan Yong, Deputy Director

Deputy Director, Central & East Asia Desk | IT

Daniel graduated with a Bachelor of Business Management in the Lee Kong Chian School of Business, Singapore Management University. He was an exchange scholar with Temasek Foundation (Learn) programme to China, Xiamen. Daniel has interned in a listed MNC Australian company, Money3 in the market research departments and currently manages his own portfolio. Daniel was also on the executive committee in SMU Eye Investment club and the Head of Strategy for Algorithm, a student Quant Fund initiative and founded his own business Twix-Media LLP developing IT solutions for companies. Daniel’s past internships also include Commodities Structuring and Credit Sales in Barclays. He has since commenced employment with Barclays in the Global Markets Division.

Noriana Sarah Proft, Director

Director, India Desk | Marketing

Noriana Proft graduated with a Bachelor of Social Science (Political Science & Corporate Communication) from Singapore Management University. She was part of the pioneering SMU Pendeza, an International Volunteer Project, that reached out to hundreds of orphaned girls in Meru, Kenya. Noriana was also the Corporate Communications Director for Connex 2012, a feature event that focused on corporate social responsibility efforts in Africa, during the Africa Singapore Business Forum 2012. Noriana was formerly an editor with The Singapore Globalist, an online international affairs publication run by students from the three major local universities. She also completed a summer internship with Fleishman-Hillard International Communications in the Corporate Finance and Industry division.

Tan Ren Liang, Director

Director, Middle East & North Africa Desk | Marketing

Ren Liang graduated with a double degree in Accountancy and Business Management from the Singapore Management University. Over the course of his university career, he was awarded the School of Accountancy Dean's List and Deloitte Meritorious award for AY2010/2011 and AY 2011/2012, and took up roles as a Research Assistant for International Finance and a Teaching Assistant for Corporate Reporting & Financial Analysis. Ren Liang has achieved a First Runner-up position at the CFA Global Research Investment Research Challenge, and a Second Runner-up position at the MEIT Case Challenge. In the summer of 2011, he embarked on an overseas community service project to Laguna, Philippines with Gawad Kalinga, a Philippine-based poverty alleviation and nation-building movement. In terms of work experience, he has completed internships with UBS AG, Deloitte Corporate Finance, and GIC Asset Management. He has commenced employment with the Boston Consulting Group since June 2014.

Nelson Goh Jun Kwan, Director

Nelson Goh graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Lee Kong Chian School of Business, Singapore Management University with a Bachelor of Business Management (Finance). For his academic achievements, Nelson was invited to be an inaugural member of SMU’s Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter – an International Honour Business Society and was on the Dean’s List in AY2010/11 and AY 2011/12. He was also actively involved outside of academics. Nelson was the co-founder of 4POINT3, a café in SMU from 2012-2014. He was also the President of SMU Pendeza II, after being part of the pioneering International Volunteer Project team to Kenya in 2011. Nelson is currently a full-time Analyst with the Global Investment Research Division of Goldman Sachs, after completing a Summer internship there in 2013.

Loh Wen Chun, Director

Director, South East Asia Desk | Resource Management

Low Wen Chun graduated from the Lee Kong Chian School of Business, Singapore Management University. He is currently a full-time associate with the Financial Sponsors and SEA Coverage (Investment Banking) for Standard Chartered Bank. Wen Chun has had prior work experience mainly in the area of investment banking and private equity at HSBC, Capital One Financial Ltd., Tata Capital, Aviva Investments, and Deutsche Bank. In 2011 and 2012, he was part of the Bondue Keynote Forum organising committee and various other voluntary projects such as Beyond Borders, an overseas community service project. During the summer of 2012, Wen Chun scored two distinctions on summer exchange at the Harvard University in the two modules he enrolled in, namely “Capital Markets and Investments” and “Emerging Markets in the Global Economy.” Similarly, Wen Chun is also an Ambassador for SMU hosting numerous C-level executives and an avid sportsman representing both the nation and school in numerous sailing competitions.

S Suresh Charles graduated with a double degree in Business Management and Accountancy from SMU. He was an honored recipient of the Lee Kong Chian Scholarship. He also led Project Neora, a pioneer Overseas Community Service Project to a village in the East Himalayas in December 2010. Charles has completed internships at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Deloitte in the Audit Department.

Nicholas Umar graduated with a Bachelor of Business Management (Finance) at the Lee Kong Chian School of Business in Singapore Management University. For his academic excellence, Nicholas has been selected as a member of the International Honor Business Society, Beta Gamma Sigma, whose members represent the top students from universities globally. His academic achievements have led him to be placed on the Dean's List for AY 2010/11, 2011/12 & 2013/14, and the receipt of the Tanoto Scholarship for the entire duration of his study at SMU. Apart from academic activities, Nicholas also founded Project Verde 2011, the first overseas community service project to Lombok, Indonesia to successfully address a large-scale malnutrition problem in the area. With a great passion for finance, Nicholas has achieved the First Runner Up of the CFA Global Investment Research Challenge (SMU 2012), Top 22 out of more than 2000 participants in the SGX Stockwhiz Trading Competition, and Top 15% of Credit Suisse’s HOLT Valuation Challenge. His prior work experience includes internships at Batavia Prosperindo Asset Management, Deloitte, and Goldman Sachs. Nicholas is currently an Analyst with the Global Investment Research department of Goldman Sachs.

Dee Chong graduated with a Bachelor of Business Management (Strategic Management) at the Lee Kong Chian School of Business in Singapore Management University. Dee's passion for the international markets has led her to accumulate internship experience in various geographical contexts- International Enterprise Singapore (the Middle East and Africa, Ghana), Cargill (Asia-Pacific), VISA (North Asia). Dee also co-led SMU Pendeza II after being a pioneering member of the Pendeza I Executive Committee to Kenya in 2011. Dee has been awarded the LKCSB Dean's List for AY 12/13 & 13/14. Dee is awaiting matriculation for her Masters' Programme.

Marcus Ng Long Chuan, Deputy Director

Deputy Director, South East Asia Desk | Resource Management

Marcus Ng graduated with a Bachelor of Accountancy with a second major in Finance at Singapore Management University. He was formerly placed on the School of Accountancy Dean’s List and was awarded the Deloitte Meritorious Award for academic excellence in AY 2010/2011 and AY 2011/2012. Marcus was the Vice-President of the SMU Badminton Club in 2011 during which he guided the team through two Inter-Varsity and Polytechnic (IVP) Championships. Marcus is also a Singapore Exchange (SGX) Scholar. He has completed three internships across the different departments in SGX such as Market Surveillance (Derivative), Sales and Clients (Derivative Membership and Co-location), and Catalyst Regulation. He has commenced his full-time employment with SGX as a Management Associate since July 2014 (MA).
